Thomas Legnon is an American born artist whose distinct style has crossed over many mediums, utilizing an undercurrent Narrative woven through the works; a storyteller dealing in Nature, Technology and Mystery. This visual theme of the endless narrative is evident in his photography, installations, oil paintings, acrylic paintings and sculpture. Though occasional works deal with the known elements of figurative representation, both real and imagined, Thomas's Encaustic paintings series grew from an old artistic instinct- the desire to create without a visual or conceptual template; an endless body of work designed to work as a continuum, a Mythos. A self realized Mythos allowing the viewer to interpret, analyze and interact with them on an individual level. Each piece is unique and has been intuitively designed through the creative process- Fusion, melting, coaxing, brushwork, tape, razor scoring and burnishing all factor into every painting. The liquid wax viable for only seconds at a time before it joins unto itself. Markings resemble an interweaving of organic and modern; architectural and elemental, resembling stone, water or land- each pouring over or through one another. Some would call them Abstracts, but they are more akin to Visual Portals. Hundreds of encaustic painted wood panels that act conduits into the viewers imagination; their own stories are what comes to the forefront, a product of discovery. Acting either as stand alone pieces or capable of being grouped indefinitely in a never ending choice of rearrangement, these pieces are aesthetically complete enough to hang 2 or 4 ways and are constructed to do so. When one owns a painting, they really own many in it's possibilities. Hundreds of pieces are already pollinating the world, and hundreds more ready to be seen here. Additional images can be arranged to be shown and all questions or comment are appreciated. Enjoy.
